Our BVI Entry Update
Our boats are CVLA approved (mycvla.com) or in the process. The USCG recognizes this commercial license and allows for greater than 6 pax to charter in the USVI.
In order for any vessel to go to the BVI, the BVI ships registry requires boats to have a SCVC (Small Commercial Vessel Certificate). During Covid lock down the BVI ships registry decided that they will no longer issue an SCVC to non BVI flagged vessels, they now deem it as an overreach of their authority to do so. For the last five plus years the BVI has been inspecting, collecting money and issuing boats Small Commercial Vessel Certificates.
The majority of the PYM fleet is US flagged and unable to go to the BVI with paying passengers. Why the BVI has decided to change what they had done for years is a mystery. We would love to be able to go there but will not until something changes.
CVLA is trying to get recognized by MCA, if they do the BVI should accept CVLA approved boats. We’ve asked for a time frame and likelihood of this happening. It sounds likely but no clue on timing.
Please remind your clients that until the BVI changes their rules we will be doing USVI only charters.
